Hero Shrew concepts

A recent Mortasheen suggestion was to base something on the fact that the Hero Shrew (Scutisorex somereni) has the strongest skeleton known to man, capable of supporting a grown human standing on its tiny, tiny little back.

So I immediately thought that'd be a tiny shrew-like monster who controls an entire extra, external skeleton like a set of power armor.

Daddy Long-Legs Guest Comic

Apteros and Son

This is the pocket notebook page where Mosslet was born, but we also see revamps of the dragonfly monster, Apteros.

Apteros, as it currently is in the Mortasheen archive, just mashes together the nymph and adult stages of a dragonfly. This is what we might get if the two had separate monsters, and I might just do exactly that one of these days.

Slab face

This is a monster I was drawing in a dream once. I'm not sure its weird or exciting enough to really make into a full color Mortasheen creature, but I still like it.  The hazy pupils were what really stuck in my memory for whatever reason.

Cessdrool

Another monster whose concept grew around a punny name.

The "bathtub" part could close up, of course, into just this fat round mouth monster.

A sketch almost a year old for a monster with one of the worst names yet.

Still tweaking the concept in my head, but the body and glasses could split into two different monsters.

Bonus Arthropoid - Membracidae

These poor little guys are too timid, too frail, and too herbivorous to make it in Mortasheen city. All they can really do is jump away really well!

Maybe someone can find a good strategic use for them, anyway...or one of them will just get tired of only jumping all the time and do some hardcore training.

Old Fectoid Sketches

Some more years-old doodles of Fectoids for Mortasheen, most of which went unused. You may recognize the most prominent idea here as a knockoff of Baikinman, but I wasn't so sure I wanted any of the Fectoids to be humanoid.

It could always be a bioconstruct, but then, there are already so many of those themed around germs and diseases.

Scagoula

Another unused monster, mostly because it's too directly lifted from the Pascagoula alien abduction legend. There's already a Mortasheen inspired by the same thing, and this was considered for either replacing it, or being a close relative.
