Bylo zářà a my vyrazili s MariĂ k nám do JesenĂkĹŻ. Ani potok! Z druhĂ© strany zahrady tekla druhá Ĺ™eka. A obÄ› konÄŤily dole v jakĂ©si Rio Grande, co mÄ›la bĂ˝t potokem a kterou se valily kameny, klády a kusy asfaltu... Bylo to docela drsnĂ˝ a i kdyĹľ nás ta voda jaksi šťastnÄ› obtekla a nijak nám neublĂĹľila, uvÄ›znila nás, ocitli jsme se na ostrovÄ›, nemohli jsme odjet, protoĹľe zmizel most i silnice, nefungovaly telefony ani internet, takĹľe jsme netušili, co se dÄ›je okolo...
A v tu chvĂli jsme si Ĺ™ekli, Ĺľe mĹŻĹľeme udÄ›lat to, co umĂme nejlĂp, vyuĹľĂt tĂ© dÄ›sivĂ© situace a vytvoĹ™it nÄ›co, k ÄŤemu (doufám) uĹľ nikdy nebudou podmĂnky.
A pak nám tu elektřinu zase vypnuli.
Dali jsme tomu vĂc neĹľ pĹŻl roku, neĹľ jsme se do nich pustili a neĹľ z nich Ráďa udÄ›lala tenhle krátkĂ˝ film. Tak tady ho máte. A fotky dáme tĹ™eba zĂtra.

It was September when Marie and I set off for our place in the JesenĂky Mountains. A bit of photography, a bit of chilling—whatever balance suited us in the moment. But everything turned out differently.
We woke up in the morning to find a river flowing through our garden. A river had no place in our garden. Not even a stream! From the other side, another river was flowing in. And both of them ended below in something like a Rio Grande that was supposed to be a small creek, now carrying rocks, logs, and chunks of asphalt.
It was pretty intense. And while the water miraculously bypassed us without causing any harm, it trapped us. We were stranded on an island—unable to leave because the bridge and road had vanished. Phones and the internet were down, so we had no idea what was happening around us.
At that moment, we decided to do what we do best: make the most of this terrifying situation and create something that (hopefully) we would never have the conditions to make again. So, we took a few photos in the new river in our garden and filmed this short movie with Marie. Well, actually, Ráďa shot it while I held a huge umbrella, crouching under it with the lights and camera, hoping we wouldn’t get swept away.
By some miracle, the power came back on that evening, allowing us to shoot and photograph the butterfly scenes in the studio. And then, the electricity went out again.
It wasn’t until days later that we learned about the devastation that had happened just a short distance away. And it took several more days before we could finally leave.
We kept the footage to ourselves—it didn’t feel right or respectful to release it at the time. We let it sit for over half a year before we finally returned to it, and Ráďa turned it into this short film.
So here it is. And maybe we’ll share the photos tomorrow.
